| TIMOTHY SPALL (Nick) earned a BAFTA nomination this year for his performance in Mike Leighs "Topsy Turvy." He had previously garnered both BAFTA and London Film Critics Circle nominations for his role in Leighs "Secrets and Lies." His other credits include Leighs "Life is Sweet," Kenneth Branaghs "Hamlet," Bernardo Bertoluccis "The Sheltering Sky," Clint Eastwoods "White Hunter, Black Heart," Agnieszka Hollands "To Kill a Priest," Ken Russells "Gothic" and Frank Roddams "The Bride" and "Quadrophenia." Spall reunited with Kenneth Branagh for "Loves Labours Lost," and also appears in such upcoming films as Roland Joffes "Vatel," Rolf de Heers "The Old Man Who Read Love Stories," and Patrice Chéreaus "Intimacy."
Spall won a Broadcasting Press Guild Television Award and received another BAFTA nomination for his role in the BBCs "Our Mutual Friend." He was more recently BAFTA-nominated for "Shooting the Past," and includes among his additional credits "Stolen," Mike Leighs "Home Sweet Home," "A Cotswold Death," "The Cherry Orchard," "The Brylcreem Boys," "Vanishing Army," and the two series "Auf Wiedersehen Pet" and "Outside Edge." His stage repertoire includes Royal Shakespeare Company productions of "The Three Sisters," "Knight of the Burning Pestle," "Nicholas Nickleby," "The Merry Wives of Windsor," "Suicide" and "Baal," as well as "A Midsummer Nights Dream," "Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme," "Mandragola" and "Saint Joan," with the National Theatre. This year, he was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to drama by Queen Elizabeth II. |
